Artclear is a technology company developing a system that securely links physical artworks with digital records through high-definition scanning and blockchain technology. The platform is designed to increase trust, reduce risk and simplify transactions within the global art market.

At the time of the project, Artclear was preparing for the launch of its minimum viable product, including a registry platform and hardware scanner. While the foundations of the technology were already in place, the company lacked a clear and consistent way of communicating its value to a diverse audience of artists, galleries, collectors, financial institutions and art professionals.

The challenge was therefore not only visual. Artclear needed a structured approach to explaining a technically complex proposition while maintaining credibility within both the art world and the financial sector. Our task was to develop the visual brand guidelines and a brand tone of voice strategy that would support the company’s launch and establish a strong foundation for future growth.

Research and brand strategy
We began by analysing Artclear’s existing communications, reviewing competitor positioning and exploring how the founders described the company’s mission and ambitions.

Equally important was understanding the audiences Artclear needed to reach. Artists, galleries and collectors all have different priorities, concerns and levels of familiarity with technology. Mapping these audiences helped us define buyer personas and identify the expectations, questions and barriers the brand needed to address.

From this research we developed a clear brand personality built around four key traits: innovative, courageous, intelligent and focused. These characteristics formed the foundation of a brand voice that would feel both authoritative and approachable within a traditionally conservative market.

Defining the tone of voice
The resulting tone of voice was structured around four complementary principles: inspiring, confident, thoughtful and direct.

The framework enabled Artclear to communicate complex ideas with clarity and confidence while remaining accessible to a broad audience. It balanced innovation with credibility and reinforced the brand’s promise of trust and reliability.

To ensure the system could be applied consistently, we translated these principles into practical brand voice guidelines, including messaging frameworks, writing examples, communication scenarios and a clear style guide. The guidelines also introduced buyer personas and a communication review matrix, helping internal teams evaluate whether their content reflected the intended brand voice.

Visual guidelines and website direction
Alongside the tone of voice work, we produced a concise set of visual brand guidelines based on Artclear’s existing design assets. These guidelines defined the correct use of the logotype, typography, colour palette, imagery and iconography across digital and print applications.

To support the upcoming product launch, we also prepared visual direction for the company’s website, demonstrating how the refreshed identity and brand voice could work together to present the platform clearly and confidently.

Outcome
The final outcome gave Artclear a clear and consistent framework for communicating a complex technology to multiple audiences, helping the company present its product with greater confidence ahead of launch.

By aligning the visual identity with a clearly defined tone of voice strategy, the project helped position Artclear as a credible and forward-thinking player within the global art market. The client responded very positively to the work, noting that the guidelines created a more mature and sophisticated expression of the brand while providing a practical foundation for future communications.
